Gutter Art From Brazil - Yes, Gutter Art

Posted by bconverse in Too funny, News

Gutter Art You walk by gutters and storm sewers everyday, but have you ever considered them to be a canvas for art. A project in Brazil called the 6emeia project is doing just that and I think it is just cool.

The 6emeia project was created and developed by the artists Anderson Augusto, also known as SÃO, and Leonardo Delafuente, also known as Delafuente. The duo live in the Barra Funda neighborhood of São Paulo where they began the project with the purpose of changing and transforming daily life.

The duo's objective is to modify the means within which we all live, proposing a new way to view things by reflecting upon themes generated through creative and unusual works. Such modifications are made by painting storm drains, light

How To Solve Any Drawing Problem!

Posted by bconverse in Too funny

bconverse

Was searching around Digg last night for art related stuff and found this article titled "How to draw anything (in one step)". I was intrigued by the title as being a web developer with limited art skills, I thought this could give me some tips for my work.

What I found at the website, was absolutely funny, true, and right on the point. From the site...

"Almost all of us have our own weaknesses when it comes to illustrating particular subjects. I, personally, can not draw a horse to save my life. I can't imagine a situation where the difference between my life and death depends on my ability to draw a horse, but still, it's haunted me for years.

I've talked about my lack of ability to draw horses to many of my artist friends and peers. To my surprise, many of them recounted me their own

Project Runway Drives Korto

Korto Momolu Challenge..... design using recyclable items that are used to make Saturn hybrids.   They grabbed seat belts, car mats, carburetors and other items to make an innovative garment. Laura Bennett is a stand in judge and Rachel Zoe is the guest judge for this challange.

The deign room was full of complaints of the difficulty of using the fabrics, the machines not being adequate to handle the thickness.  The designers hammer, cut and and struggle with the fabrics and car parts and accessories.

Korto chose to do a very avant garde design using woven seat belts.  Tim likes the sophistication and 60's style of  Korto's swing coat design.   The stiffness of the fabric works well with the high collar but presents a problem with the flexibility of the sleeves.  Korto voices her confidence in her

Farmer's Almanac as Art?

Posted by rhonda in Exhibitions

rhonda

Farmers Almanac Ran across a site showcasing antique farmer's almanacs used as art. They also have a gallery . From the site...

The Farmers’ Almanac has been used as a guide post for weather forecasting for centuries (the first Farmers Almanac was published in 1818!) Its influence continues to be strong today, despite the availability of modern weather forecasting on TV, or up-to-the-minute updates on the internet.

The Farmers’ Almanac, an annual North American publication, was just released this week, and the popularity of the search term “Farmers Almanac” proves its influence remains strong.

Emily Kngwarreye PhotoAboriginal Artist Emily Kame Kngwarreye

In the 1990s Emily Kame Kngwarreye (c.1910-1996) emerged as one of Australia's leading painters of modern times. Kngwarreye's prominence is no overnight sensation; it finds its roots in a lifetime of ritual and artistic activity. Her energetic paintings are a response to the land of her birth, Alhalkere, north of Alice Springs - the contours of the landscape, the cycles of seasons, the parched land, the flow of flooding waters and sweeping rains, the patterns of seeds and the shape of plants, and the spiritual forces which imbue the country. Kngwarreye's vision of the land is unique; her paintings challenge the way we look at art by Aboriginal Australians.
